Update, August 2026: Sonara abruptly shut down in February 2024, telling users it had not raised the funding it needed and locking people out of their application queues mid-search. The brand was later bought by BOLD (the company behind Zety and LiveCareer) and relaunched. As of 19 August 2026 we could not reach sonara.ai from India at all — the domain, the www subdomain and the pricing page all fail to connect — so we cannot verify what it currently costs or whether Indian users can sign up. Treat the comparison below as historical, and weigh the shutdown itself: a job search is a bad thing to have hosted somewhere that can vanish.

Sonara is an AI job search tool that automatically applies to roles on your behalf. It's well-reviewed for US-based job seekers — but if you're searching for jobs in India, it has a fundamental problem: Sonara doesn't cover Naukri, iimjobs, or Hirist. These three boards account for the majority of mid-to-senior job postings in India's tech, product, and finance sectors.

This guide compares Sonara with Scout by AgentCo, and explains why Scout is the better choice for Indian professionals.

Why Sonara doesn't fit the Indian job market

Sonara was built for the US market, where LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor cover most opportunities. In India, the job market works differently. Naukri alone has over 6 lakh active listings at any given time — and many companies post exclusively there, especially for roles below director level. iimjobs dominates MBA and business roles; Hirist covers product and engineering.

If you're using Sonara in India, you're automating applications only to the minority of roles posted on international boards. You're manually handling everything on Naukri and iimjobs — which defeats the purpose of automation.

The price gap is significant

Sonara's pricing could not be verified for this update — its site does not respond. Reporting from mid-2026 describes a trial that rolls into roughly $24 every four weeks. Scout costs ₹599/month for the plugin — that's 85% cheaper — and covers more Indian boards. Scout Web is free to discover matches and costs ₹299/session for resume tailoring and apply — no subscription needed.

For laid-off professionals, Scout additionally offers 20% off the monthly subscription (₹479/month, normally ₹599/month) with proof of a layoff letter — upload at agentco.in/#layoff.

What Scout does differently

  • Searches Naukri, iimjobs, Hirist, LinkedIn, Indeed, Wellfound, YC Jobs, Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, and Workday — all overnight
  • Scores every role 0–100 against your profile, experience, and preferences before applying — so you don't waste applications on poor-fit roles
  • Rewrites your resume for each application to match the job description's language and requirements — without fabricating anything
  • Runs on your own computer as a Claude Code plugin — resume tailoring happens locally there, so resume content stays off AgentCo's servers for that step (the GitHub Copilot CLI plugin sends resume text to AgentCo's servers instead)
  • Sends a morning digest summarising every application filed overnight

Discover your matches — free

Scout searches 30+ boards, scores every role against your profile, and shows you a ranked shortlist — free to discover, no credit card. Pay ₹299 to tailor your resume for every matched role, or go full autopilot with the plugin at ₹599/month.

Other Sonara alternatives to consider

LoopCV

LoopCV is a European automation tool with similar coverage gaps to Sonara in India. It doesn't support Naukri or iimjobs, and charges €9.99/month (about ₹1,100) above its free tier. Scout covers the Indian boards LoopCV misses.

LazyApply

LazyApply is a browser extension for LinkedIn and Indeed. It doesn't touch Indian job boards, requires a browser running in the foreground, and doesn't tailor resumes. Scout runs silently as an agent overnight.

JobCopilot

JobCopilot has broader coverage than Sonara but starts at $0.93/day — roughly $28/month — and still misses Naukri and iimjobs. At ₹599/month, Scout is around 78% cheaper and fully India-first.
